Georgian Era Jewelry

Jewelry that is referred to as Georgian jewelry is a type of jewelry that has been crafted in England. This English jewelry is all hand crafted and usually to high standards of workmanship. Georgian is the period when this jewelry was made ranging from 1714 to 1830

Over the period of 1714 to 1830 there were in fact four reigning kings of England by the name George. There fore all jelwery made through these years is Georgian. Of course jelwery can be dated by means of its individual styles including Rococo, Gothic revival and Neoclassical.

In the early years of the jewelry diamonds were most commonly used to decorate these pieces. As demand for individual pieces grew paste, rock crystal, marcasite and other precious metals became more popular. As demand out grew the supply diamond alternatives such as gems and even crystals were used as well.

Novelty soon became in demand also. Where as royalty had been happy to wear type of jewerlry mentioned above new markets were soon relived. Every day people were now becoming better of, and found with expendable incomes. New ranges of themed and scenic pieces came about often showing detailed designs and decorations made from Lava, shell, onyx, and carnelian.
